Local Support Groups Near Sequim, Washington

While willpower can certainly go a long way, most recovering addicts will need the help and support of others in order to overcome cravings and maintain the motivation required to stay clean.

Local support groups are some of the best places to find this support. And since they’re typically free, open to all, and widely available, they’re also one of the most accessible sources of social support.

Below are some of the best local support groups in the area.

Founded in 1935 in Akron, Ohio, Alcoholics Anonymous has since grown to include more than 2.1 million active members across the world in 2017. And given that this group is found in most towns in the United States, it isn’t any wonder how it became so popular.

And luckily, Sequim has plenty of AA meetings to choose from.

One of the first offshoots of AA, Narcotics Anonymous is another 12-step program that’s focused not on alcoholism, but on addictive substances as a whole. That means that people struggling with addiction to heroin, crack, meth, or any other substance are all welcome to attend.

There are quite a few NA meetings happening around Sequim too.

Addicts themselves aren’t the only ones hurt by their addiction. Friends and family members also have to suffer through the ill effects brought on by alcoholism. And they need support as well.

Al-Anon is a 12-step group designed to help these people in particular. And there are quite a few meetings happening in the area.

A youth-focused branch of Al-Anon, Alateen is designed so that members are required to fall into a specific age range – typically around 10 to 20 years old. And as a result, members tend to feel more comfortable sharing their experiences with addiction and learning from those of others.

There is unfortunately only one Alateen meeting nearby. But it is incredibly close.

Professional Treatment for The Best Recovery Outcomes

While support can be an enormous benefit to recovery, it alone often isn’t enough to keep individuals from turning back to using. Many people will simply need a higher level of care.

A professional treatment program provides just that. These programs are built on evidence-based strategies built on hard science. And they offer the absolute best chance at getting clean for good.

Programs usually fall into detoxification programs, rehabilitation programs (inpatient, outpatient, and intensive outpatient), or a combination of the two.

Some of the most notable benefits of professional treatment programs include:

  • Having access to certain treatments and addiction medications that might be otherwise unavailable.
  • Getting emotional and motivational support from peers, doctors, and counselors.
  • Being provided a range of amenities that can make the recovery process far more comfortable.
  • A 24/7 nursing staff that can help prevent and treat any complications that might arise.
  • Dual diagnosis programs that can detect and treat co-occurring disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and more.
