Narcotics Anonymous, or NA, is similar to AA, except with a focus on those with an addiction to illegal or prescription narcotics. NA has been wildly successful in treating addictions to all types of substances through a combination of support from peers and positive reinforcement. They also provide a 12-step program, geared specifically towards those with a drug addiction.

Nar Anon is similar to Al-Anon, except with a focus on the friends and family of drug addicts. Nar Anon's 12-step program is designed to help them deal with the effects of caring for someone who is addicted to any type of drugs. No preconditions for attendance exist other than having someone you love in this precarious condition. 

While no Nar Anon meetings are held right in Monroe, there are numerous located within reasonable driving distance.

Alateen is a separate part of Al-Anon that focuses solely on the younger friends or family members of an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a disease that can affect the entire family, and no part of the family is traumatized more than teens and young adults. Alateen seeks to both relieve the pressure felt by these impressionable youths, as well as give them pointers on how best to deal with their alcoholic kin. 

There are many Alateen meetings located not too far from Monroe.

SMART, or Self-Management and Recovery Training, differs from all other of these programs in that is based on scientific principles and understanding. 12-step programs are primarily centered around faith, and the submission to a higher power. SMART's 4-step program teaches skills and techniques that are effective for all manner of addictions. SMART also has plenty of online resources for those unable to attend a face-to-face meeting.
