Narcotics Anonymous, or NA, is similar to AA, except with a focus on those with an addiction to illegal or prescription narcotics. Nar Anon is similar to Al-Anon, except with a focus on the friends and family of drug addicts. Nar Anon's 12-step program is designed to help them deal with the effects of caring for someone who is addicted to any type of drugs. No preconditions for attendance exist other than having someone you love in this precarious condition.

Alateen is a separate part of Al-Anon that focuses solely on the younger friends or family members of an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a disease that can affect the entire family, and no part of the family is traumatized more than teens and young adults. Alateen seeks to both relieve the pressure felt by these impressionable youths, as well as give them pointers on how best to deal with their alcoholic kin.
