Addiction Resources in Des Moines, Washington

Addictions to drugs or alcohol are problems found in and around the Des Moines area. If you suffer from either of these two diseases, it is of vital importance to seek out professional programs, such as alcohol or drug detox and rehab.

Residents of King County are dying from overdoses at an alarming rate. Each year, the county loses around 400 residents to overdoses, an appalling rate by any standard. An attempt to try and stop using on your own is almost certainly doomed to failure. The help and assistance that detox and rehab programs can offer give you the edge to quit successfully.

In this article, we’ve outlined a few of these resources. We’ll discuss what they do, why they’re so helpful, and how you can get in touch with them.

Drug and Alcohol Detox Programs Near Des Moines, WA

Des Moines is home to many professional detox programs. These treatment centers help people to get drugs and alcohol out of their body.

This process may sound easy. But, anyone who has ever gone through it knows that it isn’t. When someone uses a substance for a long period of time, it becomes very hard for them to quit. If they try to stop using, they experience some unpleasant withdrawal symptoms

Detox facilities help addicts to manage these symptoms. The doctors in detox provide non-addictive medications to ease the pain. And, sometimes, they even administer a medical detox routine to help the addict withdraw slowly.

Ultimately, detox makes the withdrawal process a lot easier. By reducing the discomfort of withdrawal, it helps addicts to get completely sober (and stay that way).

Can’t afford detox? Your insurance provider will probably pay for it. Click here to see if your insurance plan covers addiction treatment.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab in the Des Moines, Washington Area

One of the things that is true about any addiction is that your road to recovery has many steps. While all are important, the step of taking part in a rehab program is likely to be one of the top ones. A rehab program is the place where you will learn everything you need to know to make sure you stay sober. No matter how slight or severe your addiction is, going to a rehab program is a necessity.

While the broad strokes of all addictions are fairly the same, each person's different characteristics and personality make the specifics of each alcohol or drug addiction different. As a result, not all types of programs are suitable for each person's needs. One of the most obvious ways some people's addictions need to be treated differently is whether it should be inpatient or outpatient. Whether the reasons behind this choice are obvious, or depend on smaller details in your life, this is a choice that needs to be made correctly.

Outpatient Treatment

For those whose lifestyle and circumstances make it impossible to stay overnight at a drug or alcohol rehab facility, an outpatient program is the best course of action. While access to professional help is not present around the clock, the level and efficacy of the therapy and treatment is just as comprehensive. Outpatient programs involve going to the facility on specified days and times. Typically, an outpatient program is more flexible than their inpatient counterparts.

Inpatient Treatment

If you have a more serious addiction, and feel you need a heavier touch when it comes to your drug or alcohol addiction treatment, an inpatient program is likely to be your best bet. Inpatient programs are filled with just the right amount of activity and therapy that helps without overwhelming. Professionals are there for you day and night, to help you during those times you need them the most. During intake, a specialized program is developed to define which therapy types would be best for you, and your schedule is created accordingly.

There is only one rehab facility located directly in the city of Des Moines. This facility offers programs for both drugs and alcohol, and specializes in court-ordered treatment for DUI offenses. This program is outpatient in nature, including intensive outpatient.

Northpoint Seattle

Northpoint Seattle is an outpatient drug and alcohol rehab organization with locations in both Seattle and Bellevue. We offer programs with different levels of intensity, including standard outpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs. Each potential patient is initially evaluated, to determine exactly what their individual addiction needs. Dual diagnosis (co-occurring disorder) patients can also find relief at Northpoint Seattle.

Northpoint Washington

If you have made the decision that inpatient is the right program type for you, Northpoint Washington is one of the best selections you can make. We have facilities both in Edmonds and Seattle, which while not right in Des Moines, is well worth any travel time spent to get there. We take patients for both drug and alcohol addiction in our personalized program.

Northpoint's drug rehab program is designed for you to get clean, avoid tragic relapse and get you the help needed to keep things going once you are done. Our personalized program begins with a detox phase, which is designed to wean you off the drug as smoothly and safely as possible. The following three weeks are dedicated to helping you make sure you do not go back to using, and provides the knowledge and understanding to live your life drug free. We round things out with a comprehensive aftercare program that can support you once you are finished.

Alcoholics also have an answer to their addiction needs with Northpoint's alcohol rehab program. This program concentrates on the psychological aspects of your addiction, which helps you understand the root causes behind why you use. This program is designed to actually retrain your brain on how to function without alcohol as part of your life.

Health Insurance

Health insurance plays a big part in most people's drug or alcohol rehab experience. Paying out of pocket is prohibitively expensive, and most insurance policies now include coverage for inpatient and outpatient rehab. Northpoint Seattle and Northpoint Washington both are proud members of many different insurance networks, and accept many plans and policies.

Alcoholics Anonymous

AA is an organization that helps alcohol addicts get sober. This group holds free meetings where alcoholics convene to talk about their condition.

Everyone is welcome in these meetings. They accept newly sober people, people who’ve been sober for decades, and even people who aren’t sober but are trying to get there. The group’s only requirement is that members want to live an alcohol-free lifestyle. As long as you want to stay sober, you are welcome in AA.

The organization uses a system called “The Twelve Steps”. This system teaches people how to accept their mistakes and move forward toward a happier, healthier life. It also teaches people how to stop focusing on themselves and turn their attention toward the world around them. AA preaches compassion, forgiveness, and selflessness.

For many people, AA is the most valuable tool for getting sober. It’s been around for 85 years. During that time, it’s helped a countless number of people to fight their alcohol addictions.

If you are trying to overcome a drinking habit, you may want to check out a meeting.

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous, or “NA”, is a group that uses the same 12-step model as AA. However, this group is designed for drug addicts instead of alcoholics.

The group does not discriminate against any particular drugs. They accept heroin addicts, cocaine addicts, and everyone else who has a substance abuse problem. Much like AA, they welcome everyone who has the desire to overcome an addiction.

Many people in Des Moines and the rest of King County suffer from a drug problem. Opioid addiction and crystal meth addiction are particularly prevalent here. If you or a loved one is battling drug dependency, it’s important to get help. NA could be the perfect resource for you.

SMART Recovery

Don’t like AA or NA? Not a fan of the Twelve Steps?

No worries! There are plenty of alternatives.

One of the most popular alternatives to AA and NA is called SMART Recovery. This program takes a scientific approach to the recovery process. Instead of tackling addiction in a semi-religious, spiritual way as the Anonymous programs do, this organization uses more practical, action-based tactics.

AA and NA are both very helpful. Many people benefit from their programs. But, they don’t work for everyone. So, if you’re looking for an alternative to the Twelve Steps, this might be a better option for you.

Al-Anon

Al-Anon is a support group that’s similar to Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. However, this group isn’t designed for addicts themselves. Instead, this organization caters to the family members and friends of addicts.

Oftentimes, an addict’s relatives suffer just as bad as they do. After all, it’s very painful to love an addict. It generates anxiety, depression, anger, and a range of other negative feelings.

Al-Anon holds meetings where family members and friends go to discuss these feelings. They offer each other support and help each other cope. As a group, everyone helps each other to recognize that their loved one’s addiction is not their own.

Even if you love an addict, it’s important to recognize that their condition is out of your control. Al-Anon can help you to come to terms with this fact. If someone else’s addiction is having negative effects in your life, this group could be a good resource for you.

There are several Al-Anon groups that operate in and around Des Moines. Here are a few meetings you may want to check out:

Alateen

Alateen is essentially Al-Anon for kids. This is a group for the young family members (children, etc) of addicts. The organization holds meetings where kids get together to learn about addiction and talk about how it has affected their lives.

Sometimes, it’s very tough to talk to kids about a parent’s addiction. Not every adult knows how to approach this conversation. Alateen meetings are facilitated by an adult who specializes in these discussions.

It’s helpful for children to realize that they aren’t alone. Other kids share this problem, too. Alateen helps to connect these kids so that they can talk with others who share the same painful experience.

Do you know a child who could benefit from a supportive group? You may want to bring them to one of these meetings:
