Addiction Resources in Pullman, Washington

Alcoholism and drug addiction are huge problems in Whitman County. If you’re struggling with a substance abuse habit, we want to let you know about some of the resources that can help.

Pullman is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Washington State. But, the rural city has a bad addiction problem on its hands.

The city made headlines in 2019 when the Pullman Police Department announced that they started administering Narcan to opioid addicts who’d overdosed. This drug helps to revive people from an overdosed state.

While Narcan is a valuable resource, it shouldn’t be the go-to solution for drug addiction. Instead of relying on Narcan to revive them after they’ve overdosed, addicts need to reach out for help before they get to the point of an overdose.

The Pullman area is home to many amazing addiction resources. There are dozens of rehab centers, detox facilities, and support meetings all within a driving distance of the city.

In this article, we’ll discuss some of those resources.

If you or a loved one is suffering from an addiction problem, it’s important to get treatment. We strongly recommend that you reach out to one of these resources for help.

Drug and Alcohol Detox Centers Near Pullman, WA

There are several drug detox facilities in southeastern Washington State. These treatment centers help addicts to overcome the difficult task of quitting drugs or alcohol.

When someone drinks or uses drugs for a long time, their body becomes accustomed to having chemicals in it. When they try to quit, their system goes into a state called “withdrawal”. This happens because their body has to adjust to the lack of drugs.

Typically, withdrawal symptoms are uncomfortable. An addict in withdrawal usually feels anxious and nauseous. They usually sweat profusely as their body attempts to flush out all of the drugs through the sweat glands. They may also experience insomnia.

Sometimes, withdrawals can be dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal, for example, can be fatal if the addict tries to quit cold turkey.

Professional detox centers help to prevent pain and discomfort during withdrawal. These facilities are staffed with doctors who help to minimize the addict’s withdrawal symptoms while they detox. They also ensure that the addict is safe and does not experience any fatal symptoms during the process.

If you or someone you know is thinking about quitting drugs or alcohol, you should look into medical detox. This is a far better (and safer) option than trying to quit on your own.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs Near Pullman, WA

Drug rehab centers are another valuable resource for recovering addicts. They help addicts to transition from the detox phase back into normal life. There are many rehab facilities in and around Pullman.

For most people, the transition from addiction to sobriety is very difficult. Even after an addict has gotten clean, they still have to deal with stress, triggers, and cravings. Sometimes, it’s hard for an addict to resist drinking or doing drugs, even after they’ve completed detox.

So, many addiction specialists recommend that addicts spend time in rehab after detox is done. This helps them to adjust to living life as a sober person.

In rehab, addicts meet with a variety of different therapists. These therapists help them to overcome any trauma or anxiety that drives them toward substance abuse. They also teach the addict some relapse prevention techniques

There are many different kinds of rehab programs. For addicts who want to avoid the temptation to use drugs during the first few weeks of sobriety, there is inpatient rehab. These are programs where the addict lives in the facility itself.

Or, an addict may choose an intensive outpatient program (IOP) instead. This is a type of program where the addict attends therapy at the facility every day but returns home after their meetings.

Don’t try to rehabilitate yourself. Let the pros help you make the transition.

Some addicts get the impression that they can rehabilitate on their own. While some people are able to do this, it’s not recommended. Addicts who avoid rehab often have a much more difficult time in their transition to a sober lifestyle.

When you first get clean, you’ll find that life is very stressful. Many addicts return to using shortly after they detox, due to the fact that their stress becomes unbearable. Rehab helps to make you stronger and more equipped to deal with life after addiction.

There are several other benefits, including:

  • No access to drugs or alcohol (i.e no temptation)
  • Medical professionals to check on your health
  • Conversations with professional therapists
  • A support network of other recovering addicts

If you want to stay sober in the long-run, rehab can help you get there.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous, also called “AA”, is one of the oldest and most popular addiction support groups in the world. Throughout the programs 85-year history, it’s helped countless to overcome their drinking habits.

This organization holds support meetings in nearly every city in America. These meetings are free. Most of them are open to the public. There are no requirements for membership, so anyone can join. Members are free to attend as many meetings as they want.

In a typical AA meeting, people get together to talk about how alcohol addiction has affected their lives. They talk about how they started drinking, what happened when they were an addict, and how they’re working to get sober. Some members have been sober for decades while others are just starting out in sobriety.

When you join AA, you’ll start working through the program’s Twelve Steps. This is a system that they use to help people get sober. You’re allowed to work through the Steps at your own pace. Other members of the group will help you work through them. Once you’re sober, you’ll be able to “sponsor” other members and help them through their 12-step journey.

If you’re trying to quit drinking, Alcoholics Anonymous could be a valuable resource for you. Here are a few meetings in the area:

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous, or “NA”, is similar to AA. It offers help and support to people who suffer from addiction. Whereas AA is designed for alcoholics, however, this group was created for people who use other drugs.

NA members include heroin addictscocaine addicts, and crystal meth addicts. There are also members who are addicted to prescription drugs like Vicodin, Percocet, and fentanyl. The organization accepts everyone, no matter which drug they’re addicted to.

The program has a similar structure to AA. Members are invited to attend as many meetings as they wish. Some people attend one or two a week while others attend multiple meetings every day. Throughout the program, members work through the Twelve Steps. The Steps are exactly the same in AA as they are in NA.

Pullman’s recovery community is a welcoming one. Local members are eager to help other addicts get clean. If you’re struggling with drug addiction and you want to stop using, this group can support you in your sobriety journey. Whether you’re addicted to morphinemarijuana, or anything in between, the group will welcome you with open arms.
